Who is Your Boss?

Overcome work frustrations...
1

Recently, I've had my share of grad school workload, which I had not experienced before 😂 Have you ever been so busy that you paused to question why you are doing all you do? What exactly is the purpose? When frustration hits you hard, that's one of the questions you get to ask yourself. Well, we will talk about that in a bit.

Welcome to another Hope Alive newsletter after a long break. I've been good, and I trust you have been doing great. Today, I will share with you something God revealed to me as a way to overcome work frustration.

Sometimes, it can be overwhelming that you want to give up, right? But it makes a lot of difference when we begin to see everything we do and all our responsibilities as a ministry assigned to us by God. This is not only about our jobs but also our roles as mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, children, colleagues, friends, sisters, brothers, and everything else that comes with responsibilities.

When you and I are aware that God has hired us to perform these duties, we will see God as our boss, not the men we think we are serving.

‭Colossians 3:23

Whatever may be your task, work at it heartily (from the soul), as [something done] for the Lord and not for men,

The verse above sums it up. If we shift our minds from serving men or working for men to the idea of God being our employer, it would make a lot of difference. This will give us a sense of urgency and reverence for our “job” because now we know that in all we do, we are doing it to God, for God, and the aim is always to please Him.

When you feel frustrated, what should you do? When I feel frustrated or don't know what to do, I ask myself, "Comfort, Who is your Boss?" GOD!

If I carry this thought, God will continually strengthen me when I feel frustrated, give me wisdom, and help me with all I need to get His job done and do it well. The same applies to you and everyone reading this who chooses to believe that their assignments have been delegated to them by God.

‭Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him.

This verse looks similar, but they are not the same. The first talks about "doing for God," and this emphasizes looking to God for strength to get His job done by being dependent on the person of Christ.

God is not a wicked Boss like some human employers.

God is not unrighteous to forget our labor or forget to equip us with everything we need to do our job well.

2 Peter 1:3

For His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that [are requisite and suited] to life and godliness, through the [full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue).

We have all we need to do life and perform our duties. The Holy Spirit is there to strengthen us with might. The Bible tells us that God works in us, both to will and to do His good pleasure. While most human employers see it as your responsibility to figure out how to get the job done, God is still willing to give us wisdom, ideas, and strength and get us out of that frustration if you and I acknowledge Him as our employer.

Philippians 2:13

[Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Except you think you got the job by your strength, why not trust God to help you get it done? If you don't see God as the One Who has given you the privilege of being a mother, sister, brother, and friend to others, then it's fine to figure things out yourself.

But why stress or experience burnout when help is available? Why slack and be inefficient when God can equip you with wisdom and strength?

As you go about your week and all you do, when you are weak or frustrated, remember to ask yourself, "Who is my Boss?"

PRAYER: God, thank You for being a good employer. Please give me the grace, strength, and wisdom to do my job efficiently. Amen.

P.S-- Unless otherwise stated, All scriptures are from the Amplified Bible Classic version.
