A Fruitful Branch

God as our foundation …

This past Christmas, I tasted Welch's grape juice for the first time, and it was great. I felt like I could drink a bottle in one sitting, but I didn’t try that yet. That grape juice only came to be after many procedures; and an important ingredient were the grape fruits. I’m not sure I would have had that “Christmas-Welch’s” experience without those grapes. Yet, behind the grape fruits were many structures and a source of nutrients put in place to ensure yield was maintained. I won’t go deep into the agricultural jargon.

Hello and welcome to another episode of Hope Alive podcast, and a Happy New Year to you too. I trust 2025 has been good so far. Today we will be talking about laying the right foundation for our lives this year, which involves partnering with God.

Jesus likened us to the branch that produces grapes. We can be the source of many delicious fruits and ultimately make our lives sought after because of the value we produce. This can surely happen if we follow Jesus’ template for being a viable and fruitful branch, which is in the following verse.

John 15:5 NKJV

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Starting the new year rooted in Christ is the key to being fruitful. What foundation will you build for the year ahead?

In a Bible plan by Joyce Meyer, she said, “Jesus is the best soil to be rooted in”.

As this year begins to unfold, how do you plan to stay strong and secure until the end?

What foundation will you lay and stand on?

We desire and want to achieve many things this year, just like other years. A lot of resolutions and 2025 goals. However, sticking to the God of all possibilities is the best thing you can do to lay hold of your desires without any hindrance.

I Corinthians 3:11 NKJV

For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

We need God as our foundation, and this includes always laying out our desires and plans before Him so that only His will prevails.

Having God as our foundation does not mean informing Him after we have carried out our plans or sharing with Him the plans we have concluded. It means actively working with God and trusting His guidance and direction for all aspects of our lives this year and beyond.

Proverbs 19:21 NKJV

There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand.

The key point today is that we can be fruitful. It is God’s will that we be fruitful this year because it brings glory to Him, too.

However, our fruitfulness and accomplishments will be rooted in our dependence on God.

How do we express our dependence on Him?

Constantly involve God in your affairs, invite Him in your decisions and pray about everything. Praying doesn’t have to be ambiguous; it simply is talking to God about anything and everything just as you would share with a friend.

It might not be all rosy in the 365 days of this year. However, plan to find your rest in God, lean on Him, and hope confidently in God’s ability to come through for you.

PRAYER: God, teach me how to abide in You this year. I choose to make Christ my foundation and the soil I will be rooted in. I am looking forward to my fruitfulness this new year. Amen.
